Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli tops Barcelona’s list of potential Luis Enrique replacements - and has a meagre €1.5million release clause in his contract. The Argentine coach has led three-time back-to-back Europa League winners into La Liga title contention this season, his first in European football. Sevilla would like to extend his stay amid reports that he is the No. 1 candidate for the Barcelona coaching position should Luis Enrique depart the Catalan giants this summer.

He said in an interview to official website that

"The fact that the club is considering extending my contract makes me happy and I value it, I'm delighted and flattered that the valuation levels are such but right now the only thing that I want is to live the present. It's a bit difficult to think about the future without a real valuation. We live in the present and perhaps in two weeks' time this will not happen because it has to do with momentary success."

Sampaoli replaced Unai Emery at Sevilla last summer and is in his first experience coaching in Europe.Sevilla are third in La Liga behind Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, and host Leicester in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg on Wednesday.

Sampaoli, who joined Sevilla last summer having led Chile to the Copa America glory the previous year, is under contract at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan until 2018. But Los Nervionenses are now preparing to hand him an improved deal, to ward off suitors who can pinch him for a knockdown price this summer.

Sevilla president Jose Castro, speaking on Cadena SER on Monday night said that

"We want Sampaoli to remain here, His attacking game makes us happy. Sevilla have offered him another year.”

Neither a former professional like Guardiola or Mauricio Pochettino, nor the newer breed of a learned technician like Mourinho, the Argentine has had a bit of everything in a circuitous route here.
