Vidal - "Real must come out and play to show they are champions."
Arturo Vidal admits that he is expecting a full charge towards Bayern Munich from Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal. The Chile midfielder thinks that Real Madrid would come with an attacking mindset much unlike their city rivals Atletico Madrid.
Last season Bayern were knocked out in semifinal round by Atletico Madrid. The tie proved to be a clash of equal forces as Los Rojiblancos won it on the away goals rule. The Spanish side was criticized by Bayern fans for their approach on the game as Atletico opted to sit back and defend rather attacking after taking an early lead. Vidal was not happy with the mentality and claimed that Atletico played ‘dirty football’.
In a recent interview with Cope, he said –
"One team played ugly football against the best team in the world.”
Vidal says he sees this game against Real turning out differently as Los Blancos are a big team also on the same level as Bayern, in his opinion –
"It will be very different, as Madrid do not sit back and wait as Atletico did. Real are a big team who must come out to play, and show they are the champions. But it will be a nice game for us. Taking on a rival of the same quality is always good."
However Chilean is adamant about his side being in control –
"The key is to be very focused when we lose the ball, as they will try and take advantage of these opportunities. I don't believe they will come out to try and take the game to us, we will always have control. But we must make sure to make the fewest mistakes possible and take advantage of our chances to score as soon as possible."
When questioned about his prediction about him scoring goals against Madrid, Vidal shrugged it off as humour –
"I said that after the Chile game. It will be a nice match, I am really looking forward to it. We are up against a team on the same level as us. We will see who is stronger, but I am very confident in this team, and that this will be our year in the Champions League."
Bayern will be hosting the first leg of the fixture on April 12 while the return leg at Santiago Bernabeu will be played on 18th April.
